Course Description:
In this course, you will learn how to get started doing academic research.  You will learn how to begin to strategize about locating, selecting, and evaluating information resources in the research process. You will learn to apply this to the Internet. The course will familiarize you with the basic features of libraries, particularly with the organization of books, periodicals, and audio-visual materials.  The World Wide Web has become the most commonly used resource for information, so you will also learn to successfully access information from non-library sources on the World Wide Web. In summary, you will achieve a basic sense of confidence in using any library and the Internet.

In order to complete all of the assignments for this class, you will need a current Washington State ID card, Driver License, or South Seattle College Student ID. If you do not have a student card, you can get one in the registration area for $5. You might also memorize your SID. You are encouraged to obtain borrower cards from Seattle Public Library and the King County Library System as well. Having borrower cards from these libraries will enable you to check out materials and access their databases.
There are no tests and no final paper, but rather a proposal  for a paper. (See blog under Research Proposal and Outline  for more information.)
Library Workshops on various topics are offered each quarter. You may attend these for extra credit: 5 points each.
